2017 Policy and Advocacy Framework
As an agency committed to serving those most in need, Catholic Charities’ strategic position requires us to acknowledge that despite our best efforts, we cannot serve our way out of poverty. In fact, our clients’ challenges often serve as evidence of broken and unjust systems. We therefore work simultaneously to both increase stability for families and individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness and dismantle policies that perpetuate disparate access to economic mobility along racial and socioeconomic lines.
There is increased evidence that communities and regions that pursue both economic growth and social justice and equity can make progress on both; those that pursue one at the expense of the other achieve neither. In 2017 Catholic Charities will work to advance policy dedicated to improved outcomes related to economic mobility, housing stability, and racial equity.
