Be the Helper: A Week in Pictures

We continue to stretch ourselves to provide the very best care to our most vulnerable neighbors during the COVID-19 crisis.

I want to thank this community for being the helpers we can rely on as we weather this storm together. Last week, the Walz Administration and House and Senate Leadership came together to pass crucial and historic funding for Minnesota’s homeless children and families. These critical dollars will ensure more Minnesotans are provided safe accommodations, meals and more as we work together to flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19.

While we are so grateful for this critically needed public support, we continue to rely heavily on our private donors and partners to serve those most in need.

In a news conference this week, I described our work, particularly our emergency shelters, as providing “field hospitals for the poor.” Your help allows us to be nimble and adapt our practices to encourage social distancing and quarantine recommendations. But the truth is, we must do much more to keep our clients and the broader community safe – and we can’t do it without you.

Over the last two weeks, I have told you about the changes we have made in our programs, the increased costs we have incurred and the incredible strain this work has on our staff who bravely put themselves at risk to serve those most in need.

Today, I want to show you some of our reality – the persistent challenges we face and the community members who are stretching beyond belief to save lives and lift spirits.

We are all hands-on deck at Catholic Charities right now. Our costs are significant and growing. We are doing all we can to support our clients and staff, but we need help and we need it fast!

Hear from Jessica Hancock-Allen, Catholic Charities nurse, about how you can be the helper today. Give a financial gift, volunteer your time if you are well and able (Catholic Charities volunteers are considered essential during this time), donate critical supplies and spread the word to Be the Helper.

Thank you for your continued support – and please, stay safe and well.

With gratitude,
