Progress on Dorothy Day Place

  • Dorothy Day Place is a two-building, $100 million project and is the largest public-private partnership in housing and social services in Minnesota history.
  • Higher Ground Saint Paul, the first of two buildings in Dorothy Day Place, has been open for nearly a year and is already making such a huge difference in the lives of many, like Markeus.
  • With the support of more than 500 generous individuals, families, businesses, foundations, corporations, and civic and faith organizations, Catholic Charities reached its goal of $40 million in private contributions, to complete the Capital Campaign for Dorothy Day Place.
  • More than 500 individuals each night have a safe space to rest, whether it is in their home or in a dignified shelter – what an incredible accomplishment and momentum towards our goal of creating opportunities and providing permanent homes in a time when they are so critically needed.
  • The innovative medical respite wing in Higher Ground Saint Paul -- funded by a unique collaboration between three area hospitals, including United Hospital, Regions Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital -- received 121 referrals in its first six months for a total potential cost avoidance of over $700,000.
  • The Saint Paul Opportunity Center and Dorothy Day Residence received the final amount of public funding in the 2017 Legislative Session and construction has begun! View progress on the contruction cam
