A partnership for the common good

When a Catholic comprehensive urban university teams up with a Catholic nonprofit focused on eliminating poverty and creating opportunity, the impact is big.  And, all for the common good.

Driven by a shared pursuit of social justice and a commitment to the common good, Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the University of St. Thomas celebrated a new, official partnership with a signing ceremony surrounded by friends and supporters on June 27, 2019.

After thoughtful and strategic discussions, both institutions have a desire to work together to launch several initiatives that enhance community engagement and student formation, address pressing societal needs, and provide a platform for future growth.

The heart of this collaboration is a willingness to work together in a cooperative way to explore and implement innovative approaches to address some of the most pressing societal needs, in a manner that advances each institution’s mission.  Design thinking may spur innovation in creative and meaningful ways, and the circle of participants within each institution will hopefully grow.

The areas of focus this collaboration will advance include:

  • Volunteer / Service
  • Externships / Service Learning
  • Academic Pursuits
  • Research / Scholarship / Public Policy Advocacy
  • Student-centered Experiences

While we expect this collaboration will evolve over time, our commitment to a shared objective remains unwavering:  to support individuals to be morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely, and work skillfully to create opportunity for all in an effort to advance the common good.
