2016 Award Winners

Catholic Charities is proud to name Tim Welsh and 3M as 2016 Award Winners.

Life of Distinction Award

Tim Welsh

The Life of Distinction Award is given to a person or family in the community who actively lives the mission of Catholic Charities through dedication to the organization, volunteerism or board commitment. This year, Catholic Charities gratefully recognizes Tim Welsh for his longstanding dedication and support to those most in need in our community.

Tim’s dedication to Catholic Charities goes back 50 years, to when he was adopted through Catholic Charities in Washington D.C.

Tim WelshWhile his first connection came at birth, Tim has been giving back to the agency for decades, serving as a board member, volunteer, volunteer consultant and donor. A Senior Director at McKinsey & Company, Tim not only shares his time and talents with Catholic Charities, but is an active, civic leader truly working to make a difference for those most in need.

“I’ve been involved with Catholic Charities in a variety of ways for a long time,” he said. “What I learned is that Catholic Charities not only does good work—it certainly does good work—but it also brings people of goodwill together and allows the community to be richer because those people are working together.”

Most recently, Tim has been working with people of good will to help realize the new vision for the Dorothy Day Center.

“I think Dorothy Day is critical for downtown St. Paul, a place that is my home, and it is very important that this place be vibrant and it’s important that we care for everybody who lives here,” he said. “I think the mission is extraordinarily important and it’s serving a critical need and I couldn’t be more proud to be affiliated with it.”

The feeling, is mutual, Tim. We are so thankful for your support!

Community Service Award

3M Corporation

In appreciation of our long-standing partnership in the Greater Minneapolis-Saint Paul region, Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis will be honoring 3M Corporation with our Community Service Award at Catholic Charities’ annual Saint Nicholas Dinner on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre. As the recipient of the 2016 Community Service Award, we recognize 3M’s steadfast commitment and support of Catholic Charities and the thousands of children, individuals and families we serve each year. 3M supports our work in a variety of unique and valuable ways, including the unwavering financial commitment of 3M employees and the company’s capacity and commitment to match these gifts; especially 3M’s Thanksgiving Match program.

3M VolunteersIn addition to these gifts, soon hundreds of people will have a place to call home thanks to generous capital support 3M has provided to make a new vision for the Dorothy Day Center a reality. When completed, this historically significant public and private partnership for the state of Minnesota will provide shelter, housing and support services that will empower vulnerable men and women with the resources they need to move up and out of homelessness.

Catholic Charities is incredibly fortunate to benefit from the volunteerism of talented 3M staff, including the guidance and commitment of leaders like Jim Anderson and Michael Nash, valued former members of the Catholic Charities Board of Directors, as well as Jim Bauman, who currently provides significant leadership and support on the Dorothy Day Capital Campaign Committee.

These are just a few of the reasons we believe 3M Corporation deserves to be recognized for all that they do and the example they set for other organizations in our community.
