National Volunteer Recognition Week: April 27 - May 3, 2008

Catholic Charities is grateful for the 11,000 volunteers who help sow seeds of empowerment and justice in the Twin Cities.

Here are just a few ways Catholic Charities' volunteers have made a difference over the past year:
  • Volunteers served more than 1.1 million meals to hungry men, women and children.
  • Children in need received the support and care of volunteer mentors who held art, educational and recreational activities.
  • Volunteers provided more than 161,700 hours of service to Catholic Charities, with a value of roughly $3 million in saved expense.

  • Nearly 2,000 families in need experienced a brighter holiday thanks to Sponsor A Family, a holiday program organized by volunteers.
  • Faith communities in the Twin Cities helped newly arrived refugees build their new lives by holding supply drives to collect blankets, mittens and household items.
  • Catholic Charities' Board of Directors purchased, prepared and served a meal each month at Secure Waiting Space, an emergency shelter.
  • Individuals seeking employment received help from volunteers who aided in resume development, interviewing skills and life skills coaching.
  • Students from area high schools completed service learning projects such as painting housing facilities and helping frail elderly with yard work.
  • Volunteers used their expertise in law, strategic planning, marketing and financial analysis to help enhance Catholic Charities' infrastructure.
  • Local corporations, including General Mills, Best Buy and the Target Corporation, have given back to the community by having employees volunteer with Catholic Charities.

Without volunteers, Catholic Charities could not fulfill its mission. Review service opportunities now — and see how you can make a difference to our neighbors in need.
