Internships and Service Learning Opportunities

Current openings:

Shelter Support Intern
Family Service Center, Maplewood, MN
Hours: Minimum 100 hours
Positions available for Fall ’10 & Spring ‘11

Summary:

  • Assist in the supervision of the computer lab area helping clients with employment, housing searches and basic computer skills
  • Assist in the overall management of the main desk area
  • Answer incoming calls and direct callers to appropriate areas
  • Greet clients and visitors and provide relevant information about programs and services
  • Be alert to potential problems and issues that arise and alert appropriate staff
  • Assist the Child and Parent Coordinator with children’s programming

Qualifications Needed:

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to relate and work with guests of various ethnic and economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work with and provide activities for children
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team


Child and Parenting Services Intern
Family Service Center, Maplewood, MN
Hours: Minimum 100 hours
Positions available for Fall ’10 & Spring ‘11

Summary:

  • Assist in all aspects of family case management
  • Assist Child and Parent Coordinator in the development and implementation of children’s activities
  • Engage children’s interests and differences with intentional learning tasks and skill development
  • Assist in working with volunteers on children’s activities
  • Work in collaboration with program coordinator to provide training sessions for parents

Qualifications Needed:

  • Ability to work with and provide activities for children
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to relate and work with guests of various ethnic and economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team


Cook’s Assistant Intern
Family Service Center, Maplewood, MN
Hours: Minimum 100 Hrs.
Positions available: Ongoing

Summary:
  • Assists in food preparation and menu planning
  • Assists in the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room area
  • Assists in supervision of kitchen volunteers
  • Organization of food storage areas

Qualifications Needed:
  • High School graduate or equivalent required. Culinary Arts Degree preferred
  • One year of food preparation experience in large volume kitchen required
  • Comfortable working with diverse population
