Families Receive Gifts to Brighten the Holidays
The needs are simple: a winter coat, boots or gloves to protect against the cold, blankets and bath towels to furnish a new apartment.
Many people served by Catholic Charities could not afford these necessary items on their Christmas wish lists. Community members generously shopped for these gifts to brighten an unknown neighbor’s holiday.
Through the Giving Tree at the Mall of America, donors provided homeless adults with warm gloves, new mothers with car seats for newborns and even dishes for a family moving into an apartment after spending several weeks at our Family Service Center. Many families in poverty cannot afford basic items such as winter boots, and extra gifts under the tree are not an option. Sponsor A Family, a joint project of Catholic Charities and Lutheran Social Service, provides families with gifts to make their holidays special. Approximately 2,000 families benefited from the Sponsor A Family program this holiday season.
