Families Receive Extra Support at the Food ShelfJorge, Maria* and their two young children have visited Catholic Charities' food shelf since June when Jorge lost his job at a soldering company.
The increase in the number of families such as Jorge’s led Catholic Charities to change its one-visit-per-month policy to allow people to visit the food shelf twice a month. Jorge and his family, including a 2-year-old son and a seven-month-old daughter, appreciate the change.
“We’re really grateful to Catholic Charities for the services they provide,” Jorge says.
A recent grant from United Way allows Catholic Charities to meet the increasing need.
“Allowing people to come twice a month for groceries gives them more stability in their lives,” says Jim Durdle, who oversees Catholic Charities' food shelves. *names changedRead more about the food shelves. Read about MN FoodShare Month, held each March. |
