Comcast Foundation Helps St. Joe's Youth Learn about Cultural Diversity
Responsible and respectful behavior is a daily lesson for youth at St. Joseph’s Home for Children – but, thanks in part to the Comcast Foundation, St. Joe’s children were able to learn these lessons in new and exciting ways.
St. Joe’s youth recently enjoyed a week-long “Understanding and Appreciating Cultural Diversity” celebration, designed to help the youth at St. Joe’s increase their level of openness and gain an appreciation of and respect for different cultures.
A highlight of the week was storyteller Ann Green, who brought to life stories of different cultures and ethnicities. After the storytelling, the Comcast Foundation gave each child a book to keep.
“Some of these children have never even been out of their neighborhoods, let alone to a foreign country, but now with the help of Comcast, their imaginations – and reading – will take them there,” said Pastor Paul Robinson, spiritual care director at St. Joe’s.
Comcast’s support also helped expand St. Joe’s library by providing ethnically diverse and culturally appropriate conflict resolution, anger management and peacemaking videos and books.
The goal of the week-long program was to promote positive change and encourage young people of different backgrounds to live and learn together in harmony – a lesson that will last long after these youth leave the halls of St. Joe’s.
